What you need

  • An iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 27. The Apple Watch app needs watchOS 27.
  • For the AI on your device: Apple Intelligence, where your device and region support it, or a model you download in AideMemo (Qwen3.5 2B, 4B or 9B, from 1.4 to 6.2 GB).
  • No account: there is nothing to sign up for.
  • AideMemo is in English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

Finding your way

  • Four tabs: Chat, Journal, Ideas and Friends. AideMemo opens on today's Journal.
  • Settings: in the Chat tab, open the chat list with the button at the top left (or swipe from the left edge), then tap Settings, the round button at the bottom left.
  • Ideas suggests the permissions and accounts you can add. Each card opens its settings.

AI and transcription

Which AI answers in Chat?

A model on your iPhone: Apple Intelligence, or a model you download from Settings › Text Model › Explore Curated Models. AideMemo never switches to an online model on its own.

Can I use an online model instead?

Yes, with your own API key. Add the key in Settings › API, then add the model in Settings › Text Model › Online › Add Model. AideMemo asks you to confirm before it uses it. What it sends is in the privacy policy.

AideMemo says Apple Intelligence isn't available

It says why:

  • Turned off: turn it on in iOS Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri, or choose a downloaded model.
  • Not available on this device or in this region: choose a downloaded model in Settings › Text Model.
  • Still preparing its model: try again later.
  • The device's model isn't the one AideMemo needs (AFM 3 Core Advanced): choose a downloaded model.

An online model or transcription service returns an error

The service turned the request down. Check the API key, the model, the endpoint and your quota with the provider, then try again. A model marked "API unavailable" can't reach its API.

How are my recordings transcribed?

On your iPhone, by default, with Apple Speech or a transcription model you download. To use a cloud service, add its key in Settings › API and choose it in Settings › Transcription Model › Online. A recording is uploaded only when you ask for it to be transcribed.

Can I keep everything away from online AI?

Yes, and that is how AideMemo starts: keep the text model and the transcription model on this device, and don't connect an AI assistant. AideMemo sends nothing of yours to us either way.

Your Journal

Does AideMemo write my Journal?

No. A day in your Journal shows its map and a card for each thing you recorded, saved or did, in the order it happened. AI writes only small things on some cards: a recording's title and summary, a note's title and the descriptions of your photos.

How do I remove something from a day?

Touch and hold its card in the Journal. Your own notes, recordings and memories can be deleted there. A deleted one waits 30 days in Settings › Memory › Recently Deleted, where you can restore it or delete it at once. Items that live in another app, such as Calendar, Reminders or Photos, can be hidden with Hide from Journal, and stay in that app.

Why does AideMemo describe photos I didn't pick?

With full Photos access, AideMemo describes the camera photos in your library from the last seven days, and from any day you open, with Apple's model on your iPhone, so your Journal and Chat can include them. It keeps the description, never the photo. Delete Memory on a photo card stops it for those photos. To stop it for all, limit AideMemo's Photos access in iOS Settings.

Can I turn off the weather?

Yes: turn off Show weather in Journal, in Settings › Location & Motion › Weather.

Your data and iCloud

Where is my data?

On your iPhone. Sync with iCloud, in Settings › iCloud, is off until you turn it on; then your library is kept in your own iCloud account so your devices share it. With sync on, Optimize recording storage can remove older audio from the iPhone once it is safely in iCloud.

AideMemo says sync is paused

Open Settings › iCloud, review the error, and try again; your changes stay queued. If the Apple Account on the device changed, sync pauses to protect the library of the previous account.

How do I delete my data?

  • A record: touch and hold its card in the Journal, or delete it from its page. It waits 30 days in Settings › Memory › Recently Deleted, where Delete Now deletes it at once.
  • A connected account: open it in Settings and delete or remove it (see Connected accounts).
  • Everything imported from Health: Delete Imported Health Data, at the end of Settings › Health.
  • What is in iCloud: in iOS Settings, open your name › iCloud › Manage Storage, choose AideMemo and delete its data.

There is no single "delete everything" button yet. Deleting the app removes what is on the iPhone. The privacy policy says what deletion cannot reach.

What appears in Siri and Spotlight?

Your notes, moments and the names of your places, while Show in Siri & Spotlight is on. Voice transcripts appear only if you turn on Voice Transcripts. Both are in Settings › Siri & Spotlight.

Connected accounts

How do I connect an account?

Settings › Plugins › Add Plugin › Browse Directory lists what AideMemo can connect: Google, Microsoft, X, Threads, Trakt, Bangumi, YouTube, YouTube Music, Apple Music and QQ Music. Before you sign in, AideMemo says what it will read. The privacy policy has a card for each service.

How do I disconnect one?

Open the account in Settings. The button depends on the service: Delete Connection (Google, Microsoft, X and Threads), Disconnect (Trakt), Remove Account (Bangumi, and email accounts), Remove Key (QQ Music) or Remove Plugin (Apple Music). Some services keep a grant you remove on their own site; each service's card in the privacy policy says where.

Google

How do I connect a Google account?

Go to Settings › Plugins › Add Plugin › Google, choose the services AideMemo may read, and tap Continue with Google. Before Google's own sign-in, AideMemo shows what it will read and how it will use it. Choose Use in Journal and Chat to let your Journal and Chat use the account, or Connect Only to see it in AideMemo alone. Then sign in on Google's page. AideMemo never sees your Google password.

What does AideMemo read from my Google account?

Only the services you chose, read-only:

  • from Gmail, your messages except Trash and Spam, with attachments when you open them;
  • from Google Calendar, your calendars and events;
  • from Google Tasks, your tasks and when you completed them;
  • from YouTube, your playlists, likes, uploads and subscriptions.

AideMemo cannot send, change or delete your mail. The privacy policy has the details.

Does my mail go to an AI company, or to AideMemo?

No. A model on your iPhone or iPad reads it. If you have chosen an online text model, AideMemo leaves your email and online activity out of what it sends, and Chat says so. Nothing from your Google account is sent to AideMemo's servers.

How do I stop the Journal and Chat using my Google account?

On the account's page, turn off Use in Journal and Chat. Chat answers that used it are cleared. The account stays connected, and you can still see its mail in AideMemo.

How do I remove a Google account and delete what AideMemo downloaded?

On the account's page, choose Delete Connection. AideMemo deletes everything it downloaded for the account, removes its access to your Google account, and clears the Chat answers that used it. Your data in Google is unchanged.

How do I remove AideMemo's access from my Google account?

Go to security.google.com/settings/security/permissions and remove AideMemo. The next time AideMemo tries to reach the account, it deletes what it downloaded for that account and lists the account under Access Ended, where Reconnect signs in again.

How long does AideMemo keep Google data?

While the account stays connected, within the limits you set in Sync and Storage. What you delete in your Google account is removed here at the next refresh. With Use in Journal and Chat on, AideMemo also keeps a record of the mail you sent and the tasks you completed, so that earlier days in your Journal stay complete, until you delete them, turn the use off or delete the connection. YouTube data is refreshed or deleted within 30 days.

Friends

How do I share a day?

In the Friends tab, choose Invite, pick the day and the memories to share, and choose Share Selected Memories, which opens the share sheet to send the invitation. Only the people you invite can see it, read-only. Manage Sharing is where you stop sharing a day, or disconnect.

Apple Watch

How does the Apple Watch app work?

It records audio and sends each recording to your iPhone, where it appears as a voice memory. It needs AideMemo on your iPhone and microphone access on the watch. It has no network connection of its own, and no settings on the iPhone.

AI assistants

Can Claude read my memories?

Only if you connect it, and only the kinds of memories you choose. Your iPhone answers every request and shows a notification each time. The steps are on the AI assistants page.

In states where the law requires an age check, people under 18 can't connect an AI assistant, and existing connections are paused.
